Du serviteur de l'Eternel. C'est là le titre d'honneur des hommes que Dieu a appelés à un rôle important dans l'histoire de son règne : Moïse, Josué, les prophètes. les apôtres. David l'obtient en sa qualité de roi selon le cœur de Dieu. Cette suscription n'est d'ailleurs très probablement pas de la main de David lui-même.

David se réjouit de la délivrance procurée par Dieu. (Psaumes 18:1-19)
Il est réconforté car Dieu constate sa droiture. (Psaumes 18:20-28)
Il rend gloire à Dieu pour toutes Ses actions puissantes. (Psaumes 18:29-50)

Les premiers mots, « je t'aime, ô Éternel, ma force » résument bien le contenu de ce psaume.

Ceux qui aiment Dieu sincèrement triomphent en Lui, le Roc et le Refuge, et peuvent s'appuyer sur Lui en toute confiance. Il est bon pour nous de noter toutes les circonstances qui démontrent Sa miséricorde, Sa puissance, et Sa bonté envers nous.

David était un homme de prière et Dieu est un Dieu qui écoute de tels hommes. Si nous prions comme David le faisait, nous irons de l'avant, tout comme lui. La manifestation de la présence divine est bien décrite aux versets Psaumes 18:7-15. Il est évident que les délivrances opérées par l'homme paraissent bien piètres comparées à celles opérées par Dieu. Il n'est pas possible d'appliquer à l'histoire du fils de Jessé ces propos terribles, majestueux et prodigieux que l'on rencontre ici au travers de cette description de la manifestation divine. Chaque détail de cette scène de terreur solennelle nous montre à quel point David était confronté à plus grand que lui. Dieu ne délivre pas seulement son peuple en temps voulu lors des épreuves, mais il le supporte également entre chaque problème.

Pouvons-nous méditer sur le verset Psaumes 18:18, sans penser à Gethsémané et au Calvaire ? Pouvons-nous oublier que c'était pendant le plus profond moment de désespoir de Christ, lors de la trahison de Judas, quand ses amis l'abandonnèrent, quand la multitude se moquait, quand les sourires affectifs du Père étaient absents, quand les puissances des ténèbres étaient dressées contre Lui ?

Les douleurs de la mort l'entourèrent, dans sa détresse, Il pria Heb 5:7. Dieu secoua la terre et la fit trembler, Il fendit les rochers et fit ressusciter son Fils car en Lui Il trouva toutes ses délices et l'accomplissement de Ses promesses.
