Le pays accordé à Israël comme son héritage est sa gloire, parce qu'il lui rappelle que Dieu l'a aimé avec prédilection : C'est peut-être cette pensée du choix dont Israël a été l'objet de la part de Dieu qui amène le psalmiste à désigner son peuple sous le nom de Jacob, préféré à Esaü. La prière est un devoir que nous devrions pratiquer fréquemment et abondamment. Voici un conseil utile : exprimons notre prière de façon à ce qu'elle soit bien compréhensible.

Sachons bien pourquoi, pour quelles raisons, nous prions Dieu et quelle en est la signification. Si la prière n'est pas un acte logique et raisonnable, cela n'est pas acceptable. Nous ne devons jamais oublier d'adorer le Messie, comme d'ailleurs l'ont continuellement fait les prophètes qui ont annoncé l'évangile de Christ pour la conversion des nations. Pourquoi nous imaginons-nous vainement Lui appartenir, alors que l'Esprit ne règne pas en nous-mêmes par la foi ?

Seigneur, n'est-ce pas ta merveilleuse volonté qu'Israël se repente pour que Tu lui pardonne ses péchés, Toi, le Prince et le Sauveur ? Affermis Ton royaume en notre cœur. Maintiens en nous toute pensée d'obéissance à Ton nom. Conduis les âmes de Tes rachetés à persévérer dans l'amour et la sainteté, dans la crainte et l'aspiration de Tes délices, dans la prière efficace qui peut surgir de chaque cœur à la fois, maintenant et à jamais, pour Toi, notre Dieu.
