9 à 16 Nous réunissons ici deux strophes, dont la première rappelle la prospérité de jadis (versets 9 à 12), mais pour mieux faire ressortir le malheur actuel, que décrit la seconde (versets 13 à 16).

Une vigne : image familière à Esaïe et Jérémie, et que le Sauveur a employée en plus d'une occasion (Esaïe 3.14 ; 5.1-7 ; Jérémie 2.21 ; Matthieu 21.33 et suivants ; Jean 15.1-6).
