L'Eternel compte... Ce n'est pas la politique, ni l'orgueil humain qui agit ici (comparez 2Samuel 24.1, le dénombrement de David) ; l'Eternel lui-même enregistre, selon sa grâce souveraine, les nouveaux membres de son peuple. L'image d'un livre, où Dieu inscrit ceux qui lui appartiennent, apparaît déjà dans l'intercession de Moïse (Exode 32.32). Comparez Psaumes 69.29 ; Esaïe 4.3.
