Comparer Hébreux 12.14.

La tournure hypothétique de ce précepte prouve que son accomplissement n'est pas toujours possible.

Jésus déclarait qu'il était "venu apporter, non la paix, mais l'épée ;" (Matthieu 10.34) et lui qui était "doux et humble de cœur" a déchaîné contre sa personne les haines les plus violentes.

Mais ses disciples doivent, pour autant que cela dépend d'eux, avoir la paix avec tous les hommes, être toujours animés de dispositions pacifiques et s'appliquer à faire régner la paix dans toutes leurs relations avec le prochain. (Matthieu 5.9 ; Marc 9.50)
