Timothée, qui travaille avec moi, vous salue. Lucius, Jason et Sosipater qui sont de ma famille vous saluent aussi.

Timothée est le plus connu des collaborateurs de Paul. (comparez Actes 16.1, etc.) Il était alors auprès de Paul à Corinthe. (Actes 20.4)

Lucius pourrait être le Lucius de Cyrène mentionné en Actes 13.1 ; il ne saurait en tout cas être identifié avec l'auteur du troisième Evangile et des Actes.

Jason pourrait être le même que l'hôte de Paul à Thessalonique. (Actes 17.5-9)

Sosipatros doit être probablement identifié avec le chrétien de Bérée nommé Actes 20.4.

L'apôtre, à la fin de sa lettre, rappelle son affection envers les personnes qui le côtoyaient, toutes étant connues des chrétiens romains.

Il est vraiment réconfortant de constater la sainteté et le côté positif de notre fraternité dans l’église. Peu de puissants, peu de grands dignitaires connaissent le salut offert par Christ. Il est légitime pour les croyants d'avoir parfois une fonction civile et publique ; il serait toutefois souhaitable que tous ceux qui occupent les grands postes de l’état, en prétendant connaître Dieu et l’église, soient en fait de véritables chrétiens, prudents et stables.
