C'est de même aussi que David célèbre le bonheur, non de celui qui s'est justifié lui-même par ses œuvres, mais de l'homme à qui Dieu impute la justice sans les œuvres.

David n'est pas invoqué comme un second exemple de foi justifiante. La déclaration du psalmiste est citée, parce qu'elle relève spécialement la non imputation du péché et qu'elle célèbre le bonheur de l'homme oui est ainsi pardonné.

Dans cette citation, le salut gratuit n'est pas seulement enseigné, il est chanté comme un bonheur, comme une vivante expérience, qui a transformé l'angoisse du pécheur condamné en la douce joie de l'enfant de Dieu. (Psaumes 32.3-7)

Il faut se garder de ne voir dans cette précieuse vérité qu'une doctrine ou une opinion théologique. Elle répond au plus profond besoin de la nature humaine ; c'est la bonne nouvelle, c'est le bonheur !
