Je disais : « Si au moins tu voulais me craindre, accepter la correction, ton habitation ne serait pas détruite, toutes les interventions dont je t'ai menacée n'arriveraient pas », mais ils se sont empressés de pervertir toutes leurs actions.
Je disais : Si tu me craignais, Si tu acceptais la correction... ! Sa demeure ne serait pas détruite. Je suis intervenu de toutes les façons contre elle, Et cependant ils se sont hâtés de corrompre Tous leurs agissements.

World English Bible I said, "Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won't be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her." But they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

Au moins tu me craindras. De tels bienfaits semblaient devoir assurer à l'Eternel la reconnaissance de son peuple.

Plus empressés : littéralement : ils se sont levés de bonne heure pour... (comparez Esaïe 5.11) ; voilà leur réponse à l'empressement que Dieu avait mis à les avertir chaque matin (verset 5). Aussi Dieu se lèvera-t-il à son tour pour le châtiment (verset 8).
