11 à 21 Le Christ vainqueur de la bête et des rois de la terre.

Le ciel ouvert est l'indice d'une nouvelle vision qui commence. (Apocalypse 4.1 ; 11.19 ; 15.5) Le Seigneur Jésus apparaît sous des traits déjà dépeints. (Apocalypse 6.2) Il est désigné par les mêmes termes que dans Apocalypse 3.14.

Il juge avec justice, (Esaïe 11.4) et son jugement sera le combat, la guerre qu'il va soutenir. (Apocalypse 16.16, note.) Ou, suivant d'autres : il combat, il fait la guerre pour exécuter ses justes jugements. Comparer sur ce jugement et sur ceux qu'il atteint, Apocalypse 20.3, note.

Christ, la « Tête » glorieuse de l'église, est décrit dans ce texte, monté sur un cheval blanc, emblème de la justice et de la sainteté. Sur Sa tête se trouvent plusieurs diadèmes : Il est le Roi des rois et le Seigneur des seigneurs. Il est revêtu d'un vêtement qui a été trempé dans son propre sang, ce qui lui permet d’être le Médiateur et de prévaloir sur Ses ennemis, qu’Il domine toujours.

Son nom est « La Parole de Dieu », un nom que personne ne connaît complètement, excepté Lui-même ; le seul fait que nous connaissions vraiment, est que cette Parole était Dieu, et qu’Elle a été manifestée dans la chair ; toutefois, Ses perfections ne peuvent pas être encore complètement comprises par les simples créatures que nous sommes. Les anges et les saints Le suivent, et sont, comme Christ, revêtus d’une armure de pureté et de justice.

Les menaces proférées sur ses ennemis sont écrites dans Sa Parole, elles s'exécuteront inexorablement. Ce qui caractérise Sa puissance est contenu dans Son nom : Son autorité et Son pouvoir sont affirmés, avertissant les princes le plus puissants d'avoir à se soumettre, et de devoir tomber à Ses pieds. Les puissances de la terre et de l'enfer tentent de faire d’ultimes efforts pour contrecarrer ce plan...

Ces versets annoncent des événements importants, prédits par les prophètes. Les personnes mentionnées ici n'ont pas d’excuses quant à leur conduite : elles exécutaient ce que leurs dirigeants leur ordonnaient de faire. Combien sera vaine l’autodéfense de nombreux pécheurs au grand jour du Jugement : « nous avons suivi nos guides ; nous faisions comme nous avons vu faire les autres » !

Dieu, dans Sa Parole, a donné une règle à suivre ; ni l'exemple de la majorité, ni nos dirigeants, ne doivent nous influencer pour déroger à cette règle ; si nous faisons « comme tout le monde », nous devrons aller là où va le plus grand nombre, dans l'étang de feu...
