Je les disperserai. C'est la continuation de la menace que l'Eternel, avait adressée par ses prophètes et qu'il rappelle ici lui-même, pour faire sentir que si les fils le traitent comme l'ont traité leurs pères, il les traitera aussi comme il avait traité ceux-ci.

Le verbe hébreu (en rapport avec le mot qui signifie tempête, veut dire : disperser comme un ouragan disperse).

Qu'ils ne connaissent pas. Cette circonstance rend l'exil plus douloureux : des peuples dont on ne connaissait pas même les noms, qui habitent à l'extrémité du monde.

D'une terre de délices : que je leur avais donnée.

Ils auront fait. On pourrait traduire ils ont fait et envisager cette dernière parole comme une remarque de Zacharie, constatant l'accomplissement des anciennes menaces de l'Eternel ; mais la pensée continue si directement qu'il vaut mieux y voir la fin des anciennes menaces de l'Eternel, qu'il vient de rappeler. Par cette expression : ils auront fait, Dieu fait retomber la faute de cette catastrophe sur les Israélites eux-mêmes ; ce sont eux qui ont été les artisans de la ruine de leur patrie.
