1 Chroniques 10.1

Or les Philistins combattirent contre Israël ; et ceux d'Israël s'enfuirent devant les Philistins, et tombèrent morts sur la montagne de Guilboa.
וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים נִלְחֲמ֣וּ בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיָּ֑נָס אִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיִּפְּל֥וּ חֲלָלִ֖ים בְּהַ֥ר גִּלְבֹּֽעַ׃
Les Philistins attaquèrent Israël. Les soldats israélites s’enfuirent devant eux et beaucoup d’entre eux furent tués sur le mont Guilboa.

La mort de Saül.

- Le but principal des livres des Chroniques, semble être la préservation de la généalogie de la maison de David.

C'est pour cette raison que l'Auteur n'a pas répété l'histoire du règne de Saül, mais uniquement sa mort, qui allait mener David sur le trône, par voie de conséquence.

De cette triste fin de Saül, nous pouvons tirer les enseignements suivants : - Que le péché qu'un homme a pu commettre, finit tôt ou tard par être découvert ; Saül est mort à cause de sa transgression. - Quelle que soit la puissance d'un homme, il ne peut échapper aux Jugements divins. - La désobéissance ne mène qu'à la perdition. Saül mourut pour ne pas avoir gardé la Parole de Dieu en son cœur.

Puissions-nous être libérés de l'incrédulité, de l'impatience et du désespoir. C'est dans l'attente de l'avènement du Seigneur, que nous serons en mesure d'obtenir l'accès au Royaume céleste, d'où personne ne pourra nous déloger !

      9 They cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to the house of their idols, and to the people.
      10 They put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.
      11 When the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard concerning him that which the Philistines had done to Saul,
      12 all the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
      13 They took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
