Joab n’avait recensé ni les ressortissants de la tribu de Lévi ni ceux de Benjamin, tant l’ordre du roi lui répugnait.

Il n'avait pas compté. Cette omission des Lévites et de Benjamin, qui n'est pas mentionnée dans 2 Samuel chapitre 24, montre que le dénombrement ne fut pas achevé.

1Chroniques 27.24, remarque expressément que le dénombrement ne fut pas officiellement consigné dans les annales de l'Etat.
