1 Corinthiens 1.26

For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;
Dieu n'a pas choisi de philosophes, ni d’orateurs, ni d’hommes politiques, ni de riches et puissants personnages ici-bas, pour publier l'Évangile de Grâce et de Paix. Le Seigneur juge au mieux quels sont les hommes et les moyens qui servent de façon optimum Sa gloire.

Bien que les nobles, appelés habituellement par la Grâce divine, soient peu nombreux, il y en a eu quelques-uns, de tous temps, qui n'ont pas eu honte de l'Évangile de Christ ; en fait, des personnes de tous rangs ont besoin de la Grâce miséricordieuse !

Souvent, un chrétien modeste, bien que pauvre aux yeux du monde, possède une meilleure connaissance de l'Évangile, que ceux qui ont étudié « intellectuellement » les Écritures, la Parole de Dieu, sans en garder le témoignage spirituel. Même de jeunes enfants ayant acquis une réelle connaissance de la vérité divine, sont parfois capables de faire taire certains incroyants ! En fait, ils sont enseignés spirituellement par Dieu ; nulle chair ne doit se glorifier devant le Seigneur...

La distinction entre les frères, mentionnée aux versets 1 Corinthiens 1:30,31, ne venait pas d'eux-mêmes : elle était le sujet par lequel ils pouvaient se glorifier dans le Seigneur. Elle provenait du choix souverain de la Grâce régénératrice divine, étant eux-mêmes « en » Jésus-Christ, par la foi.

C'est de Dieu que nous viennent la sagesse, la justice, la sanctification et la rédemption ; Il nous accorde tout ce dont nous avons besoin. Christ est la Sagesse, pour notre bien, par Sa Parole et Son Esprit ; de cette plénitude, nous pouvons recevoir tout ce qui nous rendra sages à salut, et aptes aux services auxquels nous serons appelés.

Par nature, nous sommes coupables et exposés à un juste châtiment ; Christ, par Son sacrifice, nous a justifiés, Il a expié nos fautes. Alors que nous étions dépravés et corrompus par nature, Il nous a sanctifiés, Il est la source de notre vie spirituelle : tout vient de Lui, la Tête du corps, par le Saint-Esprit. Alors que nous étions dans les liens du péché, Il nous a sauvés et libérés.

Quand Christ justifie une âme, Il la place ensuite sur le chemin de la sanctification. Il ne supprime jamais sa culpabilité du péché sans la délivrer du pouvoir du mal ; Il nous a justifiés et sanctifiés, Il est notre Rédempteur ! Il est le seul qui puisse libérer notre âme de tout péché, et nous détacher des liens de la mort.

De ce fait, toute chair, d'après la prophétie de Jérémie, Jer 9:23-24, pourra se glorifier de connaître le Seigneur : Sa Grâce est suffisante, et le salut qu’Il offre est précieux !
Car, mes frères, vous voyez votre vocation, que vous n'êtes pas beaucoup de sages selon la chair, ni beaucoup de puissants, ni beaucoup de nobles.
