1 Timothée 1.13

Blasphémateur envers Dieu et l'Evangile de sa grâce ; persécuteur à l'égard des enfants de Dieu ; violent dans son caractère charnel et orgueilleux. Paul nomme ses péchés par le nom qui leur est propre, sans aucun ménagement. Plus il s'humilie, plus il exalte la grâce gratuite qui l'a sauvé. (1Timothée 1.14)

Grec : "Parce que, ignorant, je l'ai fait par incrédulité." Si l'ignorance atténue son péché, l'incrédulité l'aggrave. Paul ne veut donc pas s'excuser par ces mots, mais au contraire, il veut décrire plus vivement encore sa profonde misère. (1Timothée 1.15)

L'ignorance comporte la possibilité du salut. (Luc 23.34, note.) Le salut ne devient impossible que lorsque l'homme reconnaissant la Parole et l'œuvre de Dieu comme étant de Dieu, les blasphème et les foule aux pieds. C'est là la péché contre le Saint-Esprit. (Matthieu 12.31,32)
