La foi et la bonne conscience sont unies comme la cause et l'effet ; mais il y a toujours action et réaction de l'une sur l'autre.

La foi est le gouvernail du vaisseau, la bonne conscience en est l'ancre ; l'une ou l'autre manquant au jour de la tempête, il y a danger terrible de faire naufrage.

Il est de la plus haute importance, pour les chrétiens de tous les temps, de ne jamais considérer une doctrine indépendamment de la disposition morale qui l'a produite, ou qu'elle peut engendrer. (Comparer 1Timothée 1.5, note.)
