En exposant ces choses à ses frères, il fera l'œuvre du bon serviteur de Jésus-Christ (Grec : "diaconos"), à qui est confiée la diaconie, le service. (2Timothée 4.5)

Timothée a été dès son enfance nourri des paroles de la foi ; (2Timothée 3.15 ; 1.5) mais ici l'apôtre met ce verbe au présent ; car son disciple puise continuellement à cette source, et par là, il suit avec soin la bonne doctrine. (1Timothée 1.10 ; comparez 2Timothée 1.5)

Le sacrifice de soi ne profite guère. Que nous sert-il en effet, de châtier notre corps, si nous ne mortifions pas le péché ? Le manque de pratique d’exercices corporels n’a guère de conséquences. Le gain inhérent à la piété repose par contre sur des promesses divines ; ces dernières se rapportent en partie à la vie présente, mais elles concernent surtout l’avenir : bien que nous puissions perdre ici-bas certains attraits, POUR la cause de Christ, nous ne perdons rien PAR Lui !

Si Christ est le Sauveur de tous les hommes, combien plus est-Il le Rémunérateur de ceux qui Le cherchent et qui le servent avec amour ! Il pourvoira en tout à ceux qui sont par Lui de nouvelles créatures !
