Avec une telle vie pour leur servir de bon témoignage, ces veuves devaient inspirer confiance à tous.

- Quelques-unes de ces œuvres de charité, humblement remplies, étaient, dans ces temps-là, d'une valeur toute spéciale. Ainsi exercer l'hospitalité ; (Romains 12.13, note) ainsi encore laver les pieds de ces frères qui en recevaient un vrai soulagement, après de longues marches dans des pays brûlants, et n'ayant pour chaussure que de simples sandales ; c'était en Orient une partie essentielle de l'hospitalité et de la charité. (Comparer Luc 7.44 ; Jean 13.14)

"La charité a divers caractères et diverses fonctions selon les divers sujets : zélée pour le règne de Dieu, à l'égard des enfants, par la bonne éducation ; libérale envers les étrangers ; humble envers les fidèles ; secourable envers ceux qui souffrent : toute à tous." Quesnel.

Tel est bien le portrait que trace l'apôtre de la véritable veuve chrétienne, appelée à servir Jésus-Christ dans ses disciples.
