15 à 17 L'épreuve infligée à Manassé eut pour effet de le rapprocher de l'Eternel. Cependant la réforme religieuse opérée par ce roi ne semble pas avoir été aussi radicale que nos versets l'indiquent, car Josias trouva encore dans le temple les abominations de son grand-père (2Rois 23.12 ; et comparez 2Rois 23.4-11 avec 21.3-7). Remarquez cependant que notre texte ne dit rien de la durée des réformes de Manassé, et que, entre lui et Josias, se place le règne impie d'Amon, qui peut-être rétablit partiellement les cultes idolâtres en vigueur sous Manassé.
