Regardez-vous aux apparences ? Si quelqu'un est persuadé en lui-même qu'il appartient à Christ, qu'il se dise aussi en lui-même, que comme il appartient à Christ, nous lui appartenons aussi.

7 à 18 Paul ne s'est point attribué la gloire qui ne lui appartient pas.

Grec : "Selon le visage," le même mot qu'à verset 1. Pour le sens, comparez 2Corinthiens 5.12.

- D'autres traduisent ces mots sans interrogation : vous regardez, et en y voyant également un reproche.

D'autres encore rendent le verbe par l'impératif : Regardez, et donnent au reste de la phrase ce sens : Regardez les choses qui sont devant le visage, sous les yeux, évidentes. Cette interprétation n'est point probable.

Paul paraissait sévère au premier abord, certains même, le craignaient ; en fait, tous ces préjugés étaient erronés.

Nous ne devons pas penser qu’une personne n'appartient pas à Christ, au simple vu de sa conduite : ne la jugeons pas selon son apparence extérieure ; l’absence de certains traits de comportement ne peut prouver qu'un homme ne soit pas un véritable chrétien, ou un fidèle serviteur de notre humble Sauveur.
