A ces motifs, l'apôtre en ajoute un troisième (verset 11) qu'il suppose agissant également sur lui et sur les Corinthiens, à savoir que, s'ils ne suivaient pas cette ligne de conduite, commandée par la sagesse et la charité, ils donneraient à Satan un avantage et sur eux et sur le pécheur pénitent, qui retomberait peut-être, par découragement, dans le paganisme et la souillure.
