Segond 21 Alors Esaïe, fils d'Amots, fit dire à Ezéchias : « Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël : J'ai entendu la prière que tu m'as adressée au sujet de Sanchérib, le roi d'Assyrie.

World English Bible Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Whereas you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.

Tous les faits et gestes de Sankhérib n'échappaient pas à la connaissance divine. Dieu lui-même, s'engagea à défendre la ville de Jérusalem : sans cette protection divine, la ville ne pouvait être réellement protégée !

L'invasion des Assyriens avait probablement empêché l'ensemencement de la terre cette année là. Mais celle qui suivait était censée être « l'année sabbatique » : l'Éternel s'engagea en sorte que le produit de la terre soit suffisant pour suppléer à l'approvisionnement du pays pendant deux ans. L'exécution de cette promesse, devant avoir lieu après la destruction de l'armée de Sankhérib, fut un signe destiné à fortifier la foi d'Ézéchias, en vue de lui donner l'assurance d'être vraiment affranchi de cet oppresseur : c'était le témoignage que Dieu allait continuer à prendre soin du royaume de Juda.

L'Éternel accomplissait ce miracle, non pas à cause de la droiture d'Israël, mais pour Sa propre Gloire.

Que notre cœur puisse être un « terrain fertile », afin que Sa Parole puisse s'y enraciner, et produire du fruit en nos vies !
