Même sous Ezéchias la différence entre le mode de célébration et les prescriptions de la loi est nettement relevée dans tout le récit ; ainsi on est obligé de renvoyer la célébration au second mois, ce qui prouve que l'on n'ignorait point qu'elle aurait dû avoir lieu au premier. Ce ne fut que sous Josias que la célébration répondit exactement à sa forme normale et que l'élan causé par la lecture récente de la loi amena, de la part du roi et du peuple, la joyeuse et complète célébration qui avait fait défaut jusqu'alors. On a prétendu aussi que jusqu'à Josias la fête de Pâques avait bien existé, mais comme fête purement agraire. Il faudrait admettre dans ce cas qu'il en était ainsi, et même à plus forte raison des deux autres fêtes, ce qui conduirait à l'étrange conséquence qu'Israël, le peuple le plus religieux de l'antiquité, aurait été le seul qui n'aurait pas eu de fête religieuse.
