La miséricorde divine inhérente à la guérison de Naaman, l'affecta davantage que le miracle proprement dit. Ceux qui ont expérimenté la Puissance de la Grâce divines, sont les plus aptes pour en témoigner.

Naaman se montra reconnaissant envers Élisée le prophète. Ce dernier refusa la récompense que l'officier lui proposait, non pas qu'il trouvât ce geste immoral, (il avait déjà reçu des cadeaux de diverses personnes), mais pour témoigner à ce nouveau converti, que les serviteurs du Dieu d'Israël doivent se contenter de ce que le ciel leur accorde, sans rechercher les richesses de ce monde. Dans cette guérison, tout a été accompli par Dieu, de telle façon, que le prophète puisse témoigner qu’il n'avait fait que se soumettre aux ordres de l'Éternel.

Il n'est pas bon de s'opposer de façon intransigeante aux petites erreurs que peuvent commettre les âmes qui s'approchent du Seigneur ; nous ne pouvons pas, en effet, leur faire rechercher le chemin du salut plus rapidement que ne l'a décidé le ciel. Cependant, en ce qui nous concerne, lorsque nous nous approchons de Dieu, nous ne devons avoir aucune « indulgence » vis-à-vis de certains péchés : ce serait une entrave dans notre progression spirituelle, non-conforme à la Parole.

Ceux qui détestent vraiment le mal, feront tout pour chercher en paix, à s'abstenir de toute ses aspects néfastes.
