Si cette postérité de David, à partir de Salomon lui-même, devient infidèle, elle sera châtiée, mais non retranchée tout à fait, comme l'a été Saül et sa famille.

Père. La relation de père et fils comprend non seulement la protection, mais aussi l'éducation, par conséquent les châtiments.

Verge d'hommes : telle que les hommes peuvent l'infliger. L'homme ne peut aller jusqu'à supprimer de son chef une famille, comme on le voit par l'insuccès de Saül avec la famille d'Ahimélec ou celui d'Athalie avec celle de Joram.
