I will make my arrows drunk with blood. My sword shall devour flesh with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the head of the leaders of the enemy."

Le feu est le signe de la présence de Dieu ; (Exode 3.2) il est aussi l'image d'un terrible châtiment de Dieu, (Luc 16.24 ; Hébreux 10.27) l'élément par lequel le monde actuel doit périr. (2Pierre 3.7-10)
Quand l'homme ne connaît point Dieu, c'est toujours un signe de son impiété ; (Romains 1.18-20) mais ici il est question d'êtres qui ont eu toute occasion de le connaître, puisqu'ils n'obéissent point à l'Evangile de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ qui leur a été annoncé et qu'ils ont rejeté.
