C'est ainsi qu'on appelait, déjà alors, des ministres missionnaires sans poste fixe, allant de lieu en lieu pour prêcher et édifier. (Ephésiens 4.11 ; Actes 21.8)

Mais ici on sent qu'en parlant de l'œuvre d'un évangéliste l'apôtre accentue ce mot et en presse la belle signification : un héraut de la bonne nouvelle.
