Apocalypse 11.3

Je confierai à mes deux témoins la mission de *prophétiser, habillés de vêtements de deuil, pendant mille deux cent soixante jours.
Quand les nations auront foulé aux pieds « la ville sainte », Dieu enverra ses fidèles témoins attester la vérité de Sa Parole, justifier Son adoration, à cause de l'excellence de Ses voies. Ces témoins ne sont que deux, mais c’est cependant suffisant. Ils prophétisent, revêtus de sacs : cela montre à quel point ils sont affligés et persécutés, ainsi que leur profonde aversion aux abominations contre lesquelles ils ont protesté.

Ils sont soutenus durant leur difficile mission, jusqu'à sa fin. Quand ils seront arrivés au terme des mille deux cent soixante jours, (ou années à l'échelle de Dieu), l'antéchrist, « l’instrument du diable », leur fera la guerre, pour un temps limité, avec force et violence. Les opposants à la Lumière s'en réjouiront, ne cherchant qu’à faire taire, écarter, ou détruire ces fidèles serviteurs de Christ, dont la doctrine et la conduite les tourmentent.

Il ne semble pas que ce temps soit encore parvenu, et les témoins du Seigneur ne sont pas encore, de nos jours, exposés à endurer des souffrances aussi terribles qu’aux premiers temps de l’église ; mais de tels évènements peuvent encore arriver : vu l'état de la piété aujourd’hui, il y aurait de nombreuses raisons pour prophétiser, étant « revêtus de sacs »...

Le triste état du véritable Christianisme peut se référer uniquement à l'Église de l'occident. L'Esprit de vie de Dieu, peut à tout moment revivifier les âmes moribondes, redonner vie à Son peuple, en l’écartant des attraits de ce monde.

La renforcement de l'œuvre de Dieu et de Ses témoins frappera de terreur les âmes de Ses ennemis. Où se trouve la culpabilité, on rencontre la peur ; un esprit cruel qui persécute, n’est en réalité, qu’un esprit lâche. Le fait de voir les fidèles serviteurs de Dieu, honorés et mis en avant, ne sera pas la moindre des punitions de leurs persécuteurs, à la fois en ce monde, et lors du grand jour du Jugement. Les « témoins » du Seigneur doivent supporter leur souffrance lors de leur service, et ne pas être impatients de recevoir leur récompense ; ils doivent rester fidèles, jusqu'à ce que leur Maître les appelle. En voyant ces deux serviteurs reprendre vie, trois jours après leur mort, les opposants à la chrétienté furent vraiment sous le choc !

Seule l’arrivée de ces événements pourra vraiment montrer toute la signification de ce récit. Remarquons qu’à chaque fois que l'œuvre de Dieu et de Ses témoins s’active, le diable et ses serviteurs ne peuvent que fléchir le genou. Il est fort probable que des témoins du Seigneur soient encore mis à mort, dans le futur...
