Boire du vin de la fureur de Dieu, c'est encourir ses plus terribles jugements. (Jérémie 25.15 ; Esaïe 51.17 ; Psaumes 75.9)

Ces jugements, nul des coupables ne pourra les éviter ; c'est ce qu'indique l'emploi du singulier : si quelqu'un adore,...lui aussi, comme Babylone, boira...

Ce vin est versĂ© pur (grec prĂ©parĂ©, littĂ©ralement mĂȘlĂ©, sans mĂ©lange), contrairement Ă  l'usage des anciens de boire le vin coupĂ© d'eau ; le jugement ne sera tempĂ©rĂ© d'aucune misĂ©ricorde.

L'auteur revient au pluriel (A, etc. ; Sin. C ; Q. ont le singulier) pour décrire les tortures communes à tous les réprouvés : ils seront tourmentés dans le feu et le soufre, (comparez Apocalypse 19.20) et cela en présence des saints anges et en présence de l'Agneau, qui leur apparaßtront dans la gloire, et dont la vue augmentera leurs regrets et leurs souffrances.
