Apocalypse 17.14

Ceux-ci combattront contre l'Agneau ; et l'Agneau les vaincra, car il est Seigneur des seigneurs et Roi des rois, et ceux qui sont avec lui, appelés, et élus, et fidèles.

World English Bible These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings. They also will overcome who are with him, called and chosen and faithful."

Les lieutenants de l'empereur dans les provinces ordonnèrent et dirigèrent souvent les persécutions contre les chrétiens, comme le montre, entre autres, la célèbre correspondance de Pline le Jeune avec l'empereur Trajan.

L'apôtre voit en eux les principaux agents de la grande persécution finale ; mais ils n'atteindront pas leur but ; (versets 8,11, notes) l'Agneau les vaincra, car il est le Seigneur des seigneurs et le Roi des rois, et il a pour alliés des appelés et des élus et des fidèles, qui tiendront bon jusque dans la mort. (Apocalypse 2.10)
