Prends garde : réveille-toi, ranime et raffermis ce qui te reste et qui est (aussi) sur le point de mourir. J’ai trouvé qu’aucune de tes œuvres ne satisfait aux exigences de mon Dieu : rien de ce que tu as fait n’est parfait à ses yeux, rien ne pourra subsister devant lui.

Grec : Deviens veillant ! Cette mort spirituelle est envisagée comme un sommeil qui laisse encore l'espérance et la possibilité d'un réveil. (Ephésiens 5.14)

Le reste, ce sont les membres les moins déchus du troupeau, (verset 4) plutôt que le reste de vie qu'il y avait encore dans les âmes. C'est là ce qui s'en allait mourir. Le Seigneur exhorte l'Église à affermir, par une sincère repentance, par un redoublement de zèle ce reste menacé. (Comparer Luc 22.32 ; Ezéchiel 34.4,16)

Tes œuvres, toutes les manifestations de ta vie ne sont pas selon l'ordre divin ; malgré les apparences, (verset 1) elles ne sont pas parfaites (Matthieu 5.48 ; Colossiens 4.12) au jugement de mon Dieu.
