Sulammith répond à Salomon par une exclamation semblable d'admiration, mais en l'adressant à son bien-aimé. Puis, comparant l'appartement aux lambris dorés dans lequel elle se voit enfermée, avec les demeures champêtres, pauvres retraites de la forêt où elle vit d'ordinaire avec son berger, elle déclare préférer à ces magnificences le siège de mousse et les grands arbres dont l'ombrage fait son bonheur.
