Il en est de même de l'énigme finale : la fuite du bien-aimé. Sulammith est remontée jusqu'à l'origine de l'œuvre messianique (verset 5) ; puis elle en a fait entrevoir la destination universelle (versets 8 à 10). Elle vient ensuite de jeter un regard sur l'apparition typique, d'un éclat extraordinaire, que Dieu en donne à Israël dans la personne et le règne de Salomon (versets 11 et 12). Et maintenant, semble-t-il, il ne lui reste plus qu'à s'unir à son bien-aimé. Au lieu de cela, le Cantique aboutit à un adieu. Le bien-aimé arrivait, se livrant à la première de ces perspectives. Il paraît, au verset 13, entouré de ses amis de noce et comptant bien que le moment est venu de célébrer enfin leur union. Pour la première fois, il prend la parole dans ce poème tout rempli de lui : Toi, habitante des jardins. Il l'appelle ainsi pour caractériser le contraste entre le séjour actuel de Sulammith et son propre séjour ordinaire qu'il vient de quitter avec ses compagnons pour la rejoindre. Les jardins, en opposition aux pâturages des montagnes, sont l'emblème d'une vie sociale bien réglée. Il désire encore, avant de l'emmener, qu'elle leur fasse entendre, à lui et à ses amis, un de ces chants qui les ont si souvent ravis autrefois.

Ces versets terminent le dialogue entre Christ et son église. Il s'adresse d'abord à elle en tant « qu'habitante des jardins » ; l'église est composée par l'assemblée des saints, enseignant toutes les ordonnances divines. Le Seigneur l'exhorte à avoir de la persévérance et à être fervente dans ses prières, ses supplications, et ses louanges, en lesquelles Il prend tout Son plaisir.

L'église réplique en exprimant son ardent désir du retour de son Époux, afin qu'Il la prenne définitivement avec Lui. Les cieux, ces « hautes montagnes spirituelles », pleines d'aromates, sont la « résidence » Christ, jusqu'au temps marqué, où tout œil Le verra, dans toute Sa Gloire, pour un monde meilleur. C'est ce qu'attendent les véritables croyants, et ils sont impatients de cette venue du « jour du Seigneur ».

Que chaque chrétien s'efforce d'accomplir son devoir, là où il se trouve, afin que les hommes puissent constater ses bonnes œuvres, et qu'il puisse en retour, glorifier son Père céleste. Suite à de persévérantes et ferventes prières, relatives à nos différents besoins, nos actions de grâces abonderont, et notre joie sera complète ; nos âmes seront enrichies, et nos œuvres seront prospères ! Nous serons rendus capables d'attendre la mort et le jugement, sans la moindre crainte. Amen, viens Seigneur Jésus !
