In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, even a great warfare: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

World English Bible In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, even a great warfare: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

1 Ă  3 Moment et circonstances de la vision.

Ce verset parait ĂȘtre un en-tĂȘte provenant du rĂ©dacteur du livre et non du prophĂšte. Comparez 7.1. Ce n'est qu'au verset 2 que le rĂ©cit se donne pour l'Ɠuvre personnelle du prophĂšte.

La troisiÚme année de Cyrus, c'est-à-dire de sa royauté à Babylone. C'était l'année 534 avant J-C, quatre ans aprÚs la vision du chapitre 9 et deux ans aprÚs l'édit proclamant la délivrance d'Israël (Esdras 1.1-3). On s'est étonné que Daniel, à ce moment, se trouvùt encore à Babylone et qu'il ne se fût pas joint aux exilés qui revinrent dans leur patrie. La pensée qu'il pouvait rendre de plus grands services à son peuple en restant à la cour de Perse et son ùge avancé expliquent suffisamment ce fait (comparez encore 1.21, note).

Beltsatsar. Par l'indication du nom babylonien de Daniel, le rĂ©dacteur veut peut-ĂȘtre constater que c'est le mĂȘme personnage dont il a Ă©tĂ© question au chapitre 1.

Et ce sera une grande guerre... celle que cette parole a la mission de prédire. On peut bien dire en effet que dans tout le morceau il n'est question que de luttes, soit dans le ciel, soit sur la terre.

La vision de Daniel prÚs du fleuve Hiddékel. (Da 10:1-9)
Il s'attend à la révélation d'événements futurs. (Da 10:10-21)

Ce chapitre reprend le début de la derniÚre vision de Daniel, qui se poursuit jusqu'à la fin du livre. Il doit s'écouler beaucoup de temps avant que tout ne soit réalisé ; une bonne partie reste d'ailleurs encore non accomplie.

Christ est apparu Ă  Daniel, sous une apparence glorieuse, ce qui devrait nous rappeler Ă  quel point nous devons observer une crainte respectueuse envers Lui.

Admirons au passage, Sa condescendance pour nous et notre salut. Daniel est resté sans force. Le plus grand et le meilleur des hommes ne peut pas supporter les révélations directes de la gloire divine ; aucun homme ne peut voir Dieu et subsister ; mais les saints, dans leur corps de gloire, verront Christ tel qu'Il est, et pourront alors supporter cette situation !

Quel aspect redoutable peut revĂȘtir Christ devant ceux qui sont condamnĂ©s Ă  cause de leurs pĂ©chĂ©s, rien ne pourra alors calmer leur terreur.
