10.12-11.32 Exhortation à la crainte et à l'amour de Dieu. Bénédictions et malédictions annoncées.

Le sommaire de ce discours, qui est la conclusion tirée de tout ce qui précède depuis le chapitre 5 est celui-ci :
Un Dieu qui a tant pardonné à un peuple privé de tout mérite, doit être aimé.

Trois sections :

  • 12 et 13, sommaire du discours
  • 10.14-11.9, développement de la crainte et de l'amour dus à l'Eternel
  • 11.10-32, promesses et menaces.

Et maintenant : comme conséquence toute naturelle de ce que Dieu a fait pour toi.

Qu'est-ce que... sinon... L'Eternel ne demande rien si ce n'est une seule chose, cette crainte qui est le tout de l'homme.

En marchant : La vraie crainte se manifeste par la vie.

Et en l'aimant : L'obéissance dictée par cette crainte n'est pas servile, elle a quelque chose de filial.

Et en servant l'Eternel ton Dieu de tout ton cœur : Elle embrasse toutes les forces du cœur ; le cœur, en hébreu, renferme aussi l'intelligence et la volonté

Ce texte indique quels sont nos devoirs envers Dieu, en ce qui concerne les principes de notre vie pratique. Nous devons craindre le Seigneur, notre Dieu. Nous devons L'aimer, être en communion avec Lui et faire de Sa Personne, nos délices. Nous devons marcher dans les voies qu'Il nous a prescrites. Nous devons Le servir de toute notre âme et de tout notre cœur. Toute notre consécration à Son service doit être faite de bon cœur, avec zèle. Nous devons garder Ses commandements. Lui obéir, doit être pour nous un véritable plaisir et un honneur. En effet, nous devons honorer Dieu ; nous devons Lui rester fidèles, comme nous le serions vis-à-vis de quelqu'un que nous aimons vraiment, en qui nous avons tout notre bonheur et plaçons notre confiance et notre espérance.

Ce texte mentionne également nos devoirs envers notre prochain. Les bontés que Dieu accorde aux hommes, doivent nous inciter à avoir les mêmes envers les autres. Tous ceux qui ont été sauvés par Dieu, lors de situations désastreuses, doivent se tenir prêts à aider les personnes traversant des épreuves similaires.

Les instructions de ce texte s'adressent également à nous, directement. Nous devons « circoncire » notre cœur : rejeter toutes les mauvaises affections, nos penchants malsains, éléments qui ne peuvent que nous éloigner de la crainte et de l'amour de Dieu. Par nature, nous avons tendance à délaisser cet amour : le péché et la méchanceté en sont la cause.

L'affection de la chair est inimitié contre Dieu, parce qu'elle ne se soumet pas à la loi de Dieu et qu'elle ne le peut même pas. Or ceux qui vivent selon la chair ne sauraient plaire à Dieu, Romains 8:5-9. Approchons-nous sans tarder de Jésus-Christ, Celui qui nous a réconciliés avec Dieu, de façon à ce que nous puissions L'aimer, Le servir, Lui obéir et être transformés en Son Image, de gloire en gloire, par l'Esprit.

Considérez la grandeur et la Gloire de Dieu ! Béni soit le Saint-Esprit ! C'est Lui qui nous préserve de toute chute, qui nous purifie et nous régénère, afin que nous ne soyons pas rejetés loin du Père, comme le furent les Israélites dans le désert, mais que nous soyons comptés parmi les enfants de Dieu, et que notre part puisse être celle des saints, Heb 3:7-9*.
