Vente d'un chien. Ce mot est pris ici dans le sens figuré pour désigner ce qu'il y a de plus infâme en fait d'impureté de la part d'un homme (Romains 1.27 ; 1Corinthiens 6.9 ; Apocalypse 22.15). Une inscription égyptienne donne le nom de chiens aux prostitués officiels entretenus dans les sanctuaires. Movers rapporte que les dons votifs provenant du salaire de la prostitution officielle dans les temples, étaient chez les Phéniciens une source importante de revenus pour les sanctuaires.

Maison de l'Eternel. Cette expression ne se trouve qu'ici dans le Deutéronome. Elle est peut-être l'indice de l'origine postérieure de cette ordonnance, ou bien elle s'explique par l'antithèse des temples païens où ces offrandes étaient acceptées.
