Ecclésiaste 10.10

Si on n’aiguise pas une hache au tranchant émoussé, il faut davantage de force pour l’utiliser. En effet, la sagesse est l’instrument du succès.
S'il a émoussé le fer, et s'il n'en a pas aiguisé le tranchant, il devra redoubler de force ; mais la sagesse a l'avantage du succès.

Il ne suffit pas d'être prudent en agissant, il faut être prévoyant avant d'agir.

Si le fer..., avec lequel on se propose de fendre du bois (verset 9).

L'avantage de la réussite. On s'attendrait à : l'avantage d'une facile réussite. Mais l'auteur veut donner à entendre que l'absence de sagesse peut aller jusqu'à rendre inutiles les efforts les plus redoublés.
