Au premier abord il semble recommander, non pas seulement la voie moyenne sur laquelle on évite tout extrême, le rien de trop de Térence, mais même la modération dans le bien et la modération dans le mal. Il faut, paraît-il dire, se rendre à l'évidence : l'homme ne peut pas faire le bien ; la perfection n'est pas son fait ; il lui faut jusqu'à un certain point sacrifier à la folie !Heureusement le verset 18 est là, parfaitement clair, et c'est à la lumière de cette parole que tout le reste doit être jugé. Ce n'est point contre une justice de bon aloi que s'élève l'Ecclésiaste, mais contre une justice d'invention humaine, qui consiste à édicter et à observer des commandements d'homme. Que personne ne se mette dans l'esprit que qui dit justice, dit longue et heureuse vie, et que, vice versa, le péché soit toujours suivi de près par sa punition. J'ai vu à cet égard des choses étranges, car ici-bas règne la vanité. La combinaison des maux et des biens, qui est la règle (versets 13 et 14), souffre des exceptions. J'ai vu tel juste mourir avant le temps et non pas vivre dans sa justice ; et j'ai vu tel pécheur prolonger ses jours dans sa méchanceté. C'est pourquoi, que personne ne s'imagine qu'en multipliant à plaisir les occasions de pratiquer la justice, l'on s'assure d'autant plus certainement la bénédiction de Dieu. Sur cette voie, au contraire, tu pourrais bien te perdre par l'orgueil et oublier qu'il n'est pas ici-bas de juste parfait, à cause du cœur naturellement mauvais que nous portons tous en nous (verset 20).Ce n'est pas cependant que je veuille te recommander le relâchement moral (verset 17). Il y a un précipice de chaque côté du chemin. Tiens-t'en à la crainte de Dieu (verset 18), et tu les éviteras l'un et l'autre. Là est la sagesse (verset 19). Ne prête pas une oreille trop facile à tout ce que tu peux entendre dire en faveur de la justice raffinée contre laquelle je te mets en garde. Résiste aux entraînements, même religieux ! Maintiens-toi au-dessus de tout qu'en dira-t-on. Si l'on prend l'habitude de tenir compte de tout ce que les gens peuvent dire, on s'expose à éprouver de fort désagréables impressions. Il faut pouvoir tout entendre sans se laisser influencer et sans se formaliser, en songeant à tant de paroles vaines qu'on a soi-même prononcées. Retour de l'Ecclésiaste sur lui-même (versets 23 et 24).Voici peut-être le morceau le plus étonnant de notre livre. Au premier abord il semble recommander, non pas seulement la voie moyenne sur laquelle on évite tout extrême, le rien de trop de Térence, mais même la modération dans le bien et la modération dans le mal. Il faut, paraît-il dire, se rendre à l'évidence : l'homme ne peut pas faire le bien ; la perfection n'est pas son fait ; il lui faut jusqu'à un certain point sacrifier à la folie !Heureusement le verset 18 est là, parfaitement clair, et c'est à la lumière de cette parole que tout le reste doit être jugé. Ce n'est point contre une justice de bon aloi que s'élève l'Ecclésiaste, mais contre une justice d'invention humaine, qui consiste à édicter et à observer des commandements d'homme. Que personne ne se mette dans l'esprit que qui dit justice, dit longue et heureuse vie, et que, vice versa, le péché soit toujours suivi de près par sa punition. J'ai vu à cet égard des choses étranges, car ici-bas règne la vanité. La combinaison des maux et des biens, qui est la règle (versets 13 et 14), souffre des exceptions. J'ai vu tel juste mourir avant le temps et non pas vivre dans sa justice ; et j'ai vu tel pécheur prolonger ses jours dans sa méchanceté. C'est pourquoi, que personne ne s'imagine qu'en multipliant à plaisir les occasions de pratiquer la justice, l'on s'assure d'autant plus certainement la bénédiction de Dieu. Sur cette voie, au contraire, tu pourrais bien te perdre par l'orgueil et oublier qu'il n'est pas ici-bas de juste parfait, à cause du cœur naturellement mauvais que nous portons tous en nous (verset 20).Ce n'est pas cependant que je veuille te recommander le relâchement moral (verset 17). Il y a un précipice de chaque côté du chemin. Tiens-t'en à la crainte de Dieu (verset 18), et tu les éviteras l'un et l'autre. Là est la sagesse (verset 19). Ne prête pas une oreille trop facile à tout ce que tu peux entendre dire en faveur de la justice raffinée contre laquelle je te mets en garde. Résiste aux entraînements, même religieux ! Maintiens-toi au-dessus de tout qu'en dira-t-on. Si l'on prend l'habitude de tenir compte de tout ce que les gens peuvent dire, on s'expose à éprouver de fort désagréables impressions. Il faut pouvoir tout entendre sans se laisser influencer et sans se formaliser, en songeant à tant de paroles vaines qu'on a soi-même prononcées. Retour de l'Ecclésiaste sur lui-même (versets 23 et 24).Voici peut-être le morceau le plus étonnant de notre livre. Au premier abord il semble recommander, non pas seulement la voie moyenne sur laquelle on évite tout extrême, le rien de trop de Térence, mais même la modération dans le bien et la modération dans le mal. Il faut, paraît-il dire, se rendre à l'évidence : l'homme ne peut pas faire le bien ; la perfection n'est pas son fait ; il lui faut jusqu'à un certain point sacrifier à la folie !Heureusement le verset 18 est là, parfaitement clair, et c'est à la lumière de cette parole que tout le reste doit être jugé. Ce n'est point contre une justice de bon aloi que s'élève l'Ecclésiaste, mais contre une justice d'invention humaine, qui consiste à édicter et à observer des commandements d'homme. Que personne ne se mette dans l'esprit que qui dit justice, dit longue et heureuse vie, et que, vice versa, le péché soit toujours suivi de près par sa punition. J'ai vu à cet égard des choses étranges, car ici-bas règne la vanité. La combinaison des maux et des biens, qui est la règle (versets 13 et 14), souffre des exceptions. J'ai vu tel juste mourir avant le temps et non pas vivre dans sa justice ; et j'ai vu tel pécheur prolonger ses jours dans sa méchanceté. C'est pourquoi, que personne ne s'imagine qu'en multipliant à plaisir les occasions de pratiquer la justice, l'on s'assure d'autant plus certainement la bénédiction de Dieu. Sur cette voie, au contraire, tu pourrais bien te perdre par l'orgueil et oublier qu'il n'est pas ici-bas de juste parfait, à cause du cœur naturellement mauvais que nous portons tous en nous (verset 20).Ce n'est pas cependant que je veuille te recommander le relâchement moral (verset 17). Il y a un précipice de chaque côté du chemin. Tiens-t'en à la crainte de Dieu (verset 18), et tu les éviteras l'un et l'autre. Là est la sagesse (verset 19). Ne prête pas une oreille trop facile à tout ce que tu peux entendre dire en faveur de la justice raffinée contre laquelle je te mets en garde. Résiste aux entraînements, même religieux ! Maintiens-toi au-dessus de tout qu'en dira-t-on. Si l'on prend l'habitude de tenir compte de tout ce que les gens peuvent dire, on s'expose à éprouver de fort désagréables impressions. Il faut pouvoir tout entendre sans se laisser influencer et sans se formaliser, en songeant à tant de paroles vaines qu'on a soi-même prononcées. Au premier abord il semble recommander, non pas seulement la voie moyenne sur laquelle on évite tout extrême, le rien de trop de Térence, mais même la modération dans le bien et la modération dans le mal. Il faut, paraît-il dire, se rendre à l'évidence : l'homme ne peut pas faire le bien ; la perfection n'est pas son fait ; il lui faut jusqu'à un certain point sacrifier à la folie !Heureusement le verset 18 est là, parfaitement clair, et c'est à la lumière de cette parole que tout le reste doit être jugé. Ce n'est point contre une justice de bon aloi que s'élève l'Ecclésiaste, mais contre une justice d'invention humaine, qui consiste à édicter et à observer des commandements d'homme. Que personne ne se mette dans l'esprit que qui dit justice, dit longue et heureuse vie, et que, vice versa, le péché soit toujours suivi de près par sa punition. J'ai vu à cet égard des choses étranges, car ici-bas règne la vanité. La combinaison des maux et des biens, qui est la règle (versets 13 et 14), souffre des exceptions. J'ai vu tel juste mourir avant le temps et non pas vivre dans sa justice ; et j'ai vu tel pécheur prolonger ses jours dans sa méchanceté. C'est pourquoi, que personne ne s'imagine qu'en multipliant à plaisir les occasions de pratiquer la justice, l'on s'assure d'autant plus certainement la bénédiction de Dieu. Sur cette voie, au contraire, tu pourrais bien te perdre par l'orgueil et oublier qu'il n'est pas ici-bas de juste parfait, à cause du cœur naturellement mauvais que nous portons tous en nous (verset 20).Ce n'est pas cependant que je veuille te recommander le relâchement moral (verset 17). Il y a un précipice de chaque côté du chemin. Tiens-t'en à la crainte de Dieu (verset 18), et tu les éviteras l'un et l'autre. Là est la sagesse (verset 19). Ne prête pas une oreille trop facile à tout ce que tu peux entendre dire en faveur de la justice raffinée contre laquelle je te mets en garde. Résiste aux entraînements, même religieux ! Maintiens-toi au-dessus de tout qu'en dira-t-on. Si l'on prend l'habitude de tenir compte de tout ce que les gens peuvent dire, on s'expose à éprouver de fort désagréables impressions. Il faut pouvoir tout entendre sans se laisser influencer et sans se formaliser, en songeant à tant de paroles vaines qu'on a soi-même prononcées. C'est pourquoi, que personne ne s'imagine qu'en multipliant à plaisir les occasions de pratiquer la justice, l'on s'assure d'autant plus certainement la bénédiction de Dieu. Sur cette voie, au contraire, tu pourrais bien te perdre par l'orgueil et oublier qu'il n'est pas ici-bas de juste parfait, à cause du cœur naturellement mauvais que nous portons tous en nous (verset 20).Ce n'est pas cependant que je veuille te recommander le relâchement moral (verset 17). Il y a un précipice de chaque côté du chemin. Tiens-t'en à la crainte de Dieu (verset 18), et tu les éviteras l'un et l'autre. Là est la sagesse (verset 19). Ne prête pas une oreille trop facile à tout ce que tu peux entendre dire en faveur de la justice raffinée contre laquelle je te mets en garde. Résiste aux entraînements, même religieux ! Maintiens-toi au-dessus de tout qu'en dira-t-on. Si l'on prend l'habitude de tenir compte de tout ce que les gens peuvent dire, on s'expose à éprouver de fort désagréables impressions. Il faut pouvoir tout entendre sans se laisser influencer et sans se formaliser, en songeant à tant de paroles vaines qu'on a soi-même prononcées. Au premier abord il semble recommander, non pas seulement la voie moyenne sur laquelle on évite tout extrême, le rien de trop de Térence, mais même la modération dans le bien et la modération dans le mal. Il faut, paraît-il dire, se rendre à l'évidence : l'homme ne peut pas faire le bien ; la perfection n'est pas son fait ; il lui faut jusqu'à un certain point sacrifier à la folie !Heureusement le verset 18 est là, parfaitement clair, et c'est à la lumière de cette parole que tout le reste doit être jugé. Ce n'est point contre une justice de bon aloi que s'élève l'Ecclésiaste, mais contre une justice d'invention humaine, qui consiste à édicter et à observer des commandements d'homme. Que personne ne se mette dans l'esprit que qui dit justice, dit longue et heureuse vie, et que, vice versa, le péché soit toujours suivi de près par sa punition. J'ai vu à cet égard des choses étranges, car ici-bas règne la vanité. La combinaison des maux et des biens, qui est la règle (versets 13 et 14), souffre des exceptions. J'ai vu tel juste mourir avant le temps et non pas vivre dans sa justice ; et j'ai vu tel pécheur prolonger ses jours dans sa méchanceté. C'est pourquoi, que personne ne s'imagine qu'en multipliant à plaisir les occasions de pratiquer la justice, l'on s'assure d'autant plus certainement la bénédiction de Dieu. Sur cette voie, au contraire, tu pourrais bien te perdre par l'orgueil et oublier qu'il n'est pas ici-bas de juste parfait, à cause du cœur naturellement mauvais que nous portons tous en nous (verset 20).Ce n'est pas cependant que je veuille te recommander le relâchement moral (verset 17). Il y a un précipice de chaque côté du chemin. Tiens-t'en à la crainte de Dieu (verset 18), et tu les éviteras l'un et l'autre. Là est la sagesse (verset 19). Ne prête pas une oreille trop facile à tout ce que tu peux entendre dire en faveur de la justice raffinée contre laquelle je te mets en garde. Résiste aux entraînements, même religieux ! Maintiens-toi au-dessus de tout qu'en dira-t-on. Si l'on prend l'habitude de tenir compte de tout ce que les gens peuvent dire, on s'expose à éprouver de fort désagréables impressions. Il faut pouvoir tout entendre sans se laisser influencer et sans se formaliser, en songeant à tant de paroles vaines qu'on a soi-même prononcées.
