Ephésiens 3.1

C’est pourquoi, moi Paul, je suis devenu le prisonnier de Jésus-Christ pour annoncer cette Bonne Nouvelle à vous, peuples de tous les pays, et pour permettre la réalisation de ce dessein divin.

Chapitre 3.

1 à 13 Un mystère dont l'administration a été laissée à l'apôtre.

Sous l'impression de la description qu'il vient de faire de la glorieuse vocation des païens dans l'Eglise, l'apôtre se tourne vers eux et veut répandre tout son cœur en prières pour eux. Mais, dès le premier verset, il interrompt sa phrase, il s'arrête à la grande pensée de son apostolat auprès d'eux, apostolat du mystère de miséricorde qui lui a été révélé ; (Ephésiens 3.2,3) puis, à Ephésiens 3.14, il revient par les mêmes mots (à cause de cela) à son vœu plein d'amour, à sa prière. (Ephésiens 3.14-21) C est avec un sentiment solennel, en prononçant son propre nom, que Paul se prépare à prier pour ses frères et qu'il s'appelle prisonnier de Jésus-Christ.

Ainsi, ailleurs, il appelle ses chaînes "ses liens en Christ," (Philippiens 1.13) ou encore "les liens de l'Evangile" (Philémon 13) parce que c'est pour Christ et pour son Evangile qu'il souffrait cette dure captivité. Ce n est pas là seulement sa consolation, mais sa gloire. (Galates 6.14 ; comparez Romains 5.3) La croix de Christ crucifie le péché et vivifie le pécheur au lieu de le tuer, comme le fait l'aiguillon de la loi.

- "Tout cela, je le souffre pour vous," dit-il à ses frères convertis du paganisme, afin de leur montrer à quel prix il achetait leur introduction dans l'Eglise de Dieu. Quelle puissance de charité cette pensée donne à son apostolat (Ephésiens 3.2 et suivants) et à sa prière ! (Ephésiens 3.14 et suivants)

L'apôtre définit sa fonction, et les qualifications requises pour l’accomplir ; il mentionne l’« appel » qu’il a reçu, à cet effet. (Ephésiens 3:1-7)
Les nobles buts de ce ministère. (Ephésiens 3:8-12)
Il prie pour les Éphésiens. (Ephésiens 3:13-19)
Et ajoute une action de grâces. (Ephésiens 3:20,21)

Pour avoir prêché la doctrine de la vérité, l'apôtre était un « prisonnier », mais un prisonnier de Jésus-Christ ! Il se trouvait, dans l’exercice difficile de son ministère, sous la protection du Seigneur.

Toutes les offres merveilleuses de l'Évangile, « la bonne nouvelle », proviennent de l’abondance de la Grâce de Dieu ; par l’Évangile, l'Esprit opère dans les âmes ici-bas, par la Grâce. Il s’agit en fait d’un mystère qui nous échappe, caché dans le salut offert par Christ.

Le salut par la Grâce n'était pas aussi clairement révélé aux prophètes de l’Ancien Testament, que pour ceux du N.T. Telle était la grande vérité révélée à l'apôtre ; Dieu désormais, appelait les Païens à bénéficier du salut, par la foi en Christ.

Le Seigneur assiste Ses serviteurs dans le cadre de leur ministère, en leur attribuant différents dons, par Sa Grâce. Puisque qu’Il a désigné Paul pour accomplir sa fonction d’apôtre, Il lui a attribué toute la qualification nécessaire.
