Pénétré de ce sentiment que l'amour de Christ surpasse toutes nos pensées, tous nos vœux, toutes nos prières ; se souvenant que "nous ne savons pas nous-mêmes comment nous devons prier," (Romains 8.26) l'apôtre s'en remet avec confiance pour tous ses vœux et tous les besoins des Eglises à ce Dieu qui prend plaisir à répandre sur ses enfants toutes les richesses de sa grâce.

Quoi que nous demandions ou même que nous pensions, Dieu peut et veut faire infiniment plus encore.

Paul fonde cette confiance sur la puissance divine qui agit en nous avec efficace (Grec : "énergie"), et qui nous a tirés de la mort pour nous rendre participants de la vie de Christ. (Ephésiens 2.1-6)

- C'est avec un sentiment profond d'adoration et d'amour que l'apôtre rend toute gloire à son Dieu. Son vœu ardent est que l'Eglise entière contribue à cette gloire de Dieu. C'est ce qui aura lieu, car il s'agit de l'Eglise en Jésus-Christ qui est en lui, dont il est la vie et à qui il assure le triomphe final. Suivant d'autres, il faut traduire : "dans l'Eglise, par Jésus-Christ."

- C'est encore par Christ que gloire est rendue à Dieu dans l'Eglise.

- Cette gloire sera éternelle, et sur la terre tant qu'il y aura des hommes, et dans le ciel. Trad. littér. : En toutes les générations du siècle des siècles, c'est-à-dire du siècle le plus reculé, en d'autres termes : éternellement.

- Amen, vérité, réalité immuable.
