Paul ne demande pas seulement les prières de ses frères pour tous les saints, mais aussi pour lui-même, et tout spécialement pour le succès de son ministère, de sa prédication, qui était la grande, là seule affaire de sa vie.

Bien assuré que Dieu exauce ses propres prières, il éprouve pourtant le besoin de celles de ses frères, parce qu'il sait que Dieu, dans sa tendre miséricorde a ouvert à ses enfants une nouvelle source de consolation et de force dans la communion de leurs prières, à laquelle sont faites des promesses spéciales de bénédiction. (Matthieu 18.19,20 ; Philippiens 1.19)

Quelle puissance les ministres de la Parole de Dieu trouveraient dans les prières de leurs auditeurs, si ceux-ci étaient plus fidèles à en offrir à Dieu pour eux !

Paul exhorte ses frères à prier afin, dit-il, qu'il me soit donné de parler librement ; c'est ainsi que nous interprétons le texte qui porte littér. : "afin que parole me soit donnée dans l'ouverture de ma bouche."

Quelques-uns expliquent ces mots : "Que Dieu me donne le discours que je dois tenir, quand j'ouvre la bouche." D'autres : "Que la capacité de parler me soit donnée (de Dieu) en ce qu'il m'ouvre la bouche."

L'Évangile était dans l’Ancien Testament un véritable mystère, jusqu'à ce qu'il soit révélé par Dieu ; le rôle des serviteurs de Dieu consiste désormais à annoncer cette « bonne nouvelle aux hommes ! »

Les meilleurs, les plus éminents serviteurs de Dieu ont besoin du soutien des prières des croyants. Nous devons particulièrement prier pour ceux qui sont exposés à de grandes épreuves ou à des périls, dans leur ministère.

« Que la paix et la charité, avec la foi, soient données aux frères. » Le terme paix comporte différentes significations : - La paix avec Dieu ; - La paix de la conscience ; - La paix parmi les croyants ; - La grâce de l'Esprit, qui produit la foi et l'amour.

Paul désire tout cela pour ceux en qui la Grâce a déjà opéré. Toutes grâces et bénédictions parviennent aux enfants de Dieu par le biais de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur. La grâce, c'est-à-dire, la faveur de Dieu, avec tous les biens spirituels et temporels qui en découlent, est avec tous ceux qui aiment notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ en toute sincérité ; avec eux seulement !
