World English Bible What will they answer the messengers of the nation? That Yahweh has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

Les envoyés du peuple sont ou les envoyés assyriens qui viendront sommer Ezéchias de se rendre (36.4 et suivants ; 37.9 et suivants ; comparez l'allusion que fait Esaïe à leurs discours 10.8-11), ou des députés philistins, venus à Jérusalem pour conclure une alliance avec Juda (comparez 16.1-6 ; 18.2, note).

La seconde partie du verset renferme la réponse qui doit leur être faite : Israël n'a rien à redouter, ni à attendre des hommes ; son salut repose sur la fidélité de Dieu. Comparez 37.22-35 ; 28.16 ; 33.19-21. Jérusalem fut en effet sauvée, et les Philistins, vaincus par le grand roi, n'eurent pas même la consolation de voir Sion succomber comme eux.
