World English Bible For in this mountain the hand of Yahweh will rest. Moab will be trodden down in his place, even like straw is trodden down in the water of the dunghill.

Cette montagne : voyez verset 6.

Moab est ici le type de tous les ennemis du peuple de Dieu (comme Edom représente au chapitre 34 tout le monde païen). Esaïe le choisit entre tous, à cause de son ancienne et persistante hostilité contre Juda, et surtout de son indomptable orgueil (comparez 16.6). Ce choix indique un temps où Moab était encore assez puissant pour faire souffrir Israël ; il en était bien ainsi à l'époque d'Esaïe ; ce trait témoigne en faveur de l'authenticité des chapitres 24 à 27, qui est, à tort selon nous, contestée par plusieurs. Le prophète emprunte ici, comme ailleurs, aux circonstances de son temps les couleurs sous lesquelles il peint les derniers jours (voir 11.14, note).
