L'attente patiente est à toutes les époques le trait caractéristique des enfants de Dieu. Comparez 8.17 ; 25.9, et de nombreux passages des psaumes. Les fidèles de l'Ancien Testament soupirent après la manifestation de la justice de Dieu par le jugement qui délivrera la terre de la domination des méchants. Comparez Luc 18.7-8 ; 21.28.

Ton souvenir, littéralement : ton mémorial. Cette expression désigne ici le nom sous lequel Jéhova s'était révélé à Israël comme Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob. Comparez Exode 3.14 ; 34.5-6. C'était sous ce nom qu'ils l'invoquaient ; leur ardent désir était que Dieu se manifestât comme tel, en opérant la délivrance de son peuple.
