Esaïe 35.1

Que le désert et la terre aride manifestent leur joie ! Que le pays sec s’émerveille et se couvre de fleurs,
Le désert et le pays aride se réjouiront ! La solitude sera dans l'allégresse, et fleurira comme le lis.

1 à 4 Le désert fleurit à l'approche de Jéhova ; le peuple humilié est invité à reprendre courage ; car son Dieu vient pour sauver. Comparez Psaumes 98.1-9.

Le désert est selon les uns la Palestine, dévastée par les jugements de Dieu (comparez 33.8-9), selon les autres le désert que le peuple d'Israël traversera pour revenir en Sion de tous les pays de l'exil (de la Mésopotamie, de l'Egypte, etc. ; comparez 11.12,15-16 ; 27.13) ; ce dernier sens paraît plus simple.

Bien que la Judée ait été prospère au temps d'Ézéchias, le Royaume de Christ reste bien le sujet principal de cette prophétie !

La Grâce est capable de faire passer l'âme, d'un état « désertique », à une situation de félicité merveilleuse, de réjouissance, dans la joie et les chants d'allégresse. Les « timides » et les « faibles » sont encouragés. Tel est le message de l'évangile !

Par la Grâce, toute crainte se dissipe ; plus nous nous efforçons de lutter contre cette dernière, plus nous sommes forts, et plus nous sommes capables d'avancer et d'endurer la souffrance ;

Le texte nous recommande d'être forts, en nous reposant sur l'aide offerte par Celui qui est le « Tout-Puissant ». L'assurance nous est donnée que l'avènement du Messie est Proche : Sa vengeance s'exercera contre les puissances des ténèbres, et réconfortera en abondance, ceux qui « pleurent en Sion » ; Il est déjà venu pour accorder Son salut. Il reviendra encore, à la fin des temps, pour punir ceux qui ont éprouvé Son peuple ; Il donnera à ce dernier le vrai repos, la merveilleuse récompense, pour tous leurs malheurs subis !

      7 Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let us give the glory to him. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready."
