Alors les yeux des aveugles s'ouvriront, et les oreilles des sourds seront ouvertes.

5 à 10 La délivrance opérée par l'Eternel et le salut parfait accordé aux élus : ils sont délivrés de tous maux, comblés, de tous biens ; un chemin réservé pour eux seuls les conduit sûrement jusqu'au séjour du salut.

La description a un caractère symbolique. Plusieurs des traits de ce tableau se sont réalisés à la lettre dans le ministère de Jésus, de manière à le désigner clairement au peuple comme le Messie (voir sa réponse au doute de Jean-Baptiste, Matthieu 11.5). Tous auront leur réalisation plus complète, à la fois matérielle et spirituelle, dans la nouvelle création (11.6, note).

Quand Christ reviendra pour établir son Royaume ici-bas, alors Ses merveilles, Ses grandes merveilles, s'accompliront sur les âmes. Par la Parole et Esprit de Christ, ceux qui étaient spirituellement aveugles, « recouvreront la vue » ; les sourds aux appels divins, retrouveront l'ouïe. Ceux qui étaient incapables d'accomplir toute bonne œuvre, par la Grâce divine, seront alors rendus actifs ! Ceux qui ne savaient pas comment parler de Dieu ou à Dieu, verront s'ouvrir leurs lèvres pour exprimer toutes sortes de louanges ! Le fait de voir l'Esprit-Saint descendre vers les « Gentils » qui entendaient la Parole de Dieu, pouvait être comparé à des « fontaines d'eaux vives » !

Une grande partie de la terre est toujours « désertique » ; on ne peut pas dire qu'il y ait abondance d'adorateurs spirituels, ni de « fruits » de la sainteté, ici-bas. Mais la spiritualité et la piété seront alors manifestes. La voie de la sainteté est indiquée par les commandements divins ; cette voie a toujours été, elle est la seule qui soit fiable. Le chemin vers le ciel est d'accès très simple. Ceux qui possèdent peu de connaissances concernant la Parole, seront gardés de ne pas trouver ce bon « chemin », celui du salut. Ce sera un chemin sûr ; rien ne pourrait réellement nuire à ceux qui l'emprunteront. Christ, « le Chemin » qui mène à Dieu, se fera clairement connaître ; la voie à suivre pour le croyant sera claire, évidente.

Avançons avec enthousiasme, assurés que le terme de ce chemin sera la félicité éternelle, et le repos pour l'âme. Ceux, qui par la foi, sont faits « citoyens de l'évangile de Sion », se réjouissent en Jésus-Christ ; leurs douleurs et leurs soupirs sont allégés par les consolations divines.

Telle est la conclusion de ces prophéties. Notre espérance dans la joie, et la perspective de la vie éternelle, devraient inhiber toutes nos douleurs et vaines joies du moment présent.

Quelle serait l'utilité d'admirer l'excellence de la Parole de Dieu, si l'on ne se basait pas sur Ses précieuses Promesses à notre égard ? Aimons-nous Dieu, non seulement en tant que notre Créateur, mais aussi parce qu'il a donné Son Fils unique, mort sur la croix pour nous ?

Marchons-nous dans les voies de la sainteté ? Essayons de nous poser ce genre de questions, si pertinentes, plutôt que de passer du temps sur des thèmes qui excitent notre curiosité ou qui nous amusent, mais complètement inutiles !
