Le mot agartal est probablement en rapport avec le grec cartalos, corbeille. Les couteaux (machalaphim) répondent probablement aux mezammerôth de 1Rois 7.50. Le mot machalaphim vient d'une racine qui signifie transpercer.Cruches, peut-être à couvercles.De second ordre. Le mot traduit ainsi est d'un sens douteux et indique peut-être que ces vases-là étaient employés pour des offices moins sacrés que ceux d'or.
