9 à 19 Le parvis.

Le parvis. Ce parvis était la vaste cour qui entourait la Demeure et la séparait du camp. C'était là qu'entraient les sacrificateurs appelés à officier et les Israélites qui offraient un sacrifice. Les temples des peuples de l'antiquité, en particulier ceux des Egyptiens, étaient aussi entourés d'une cour. Celle-ci avait la forme d'un rectangle de cent coudées de long sur cinquante de large. La clôture était formée d'une toile fixée à des piliers placés de distance en distance ; elle avait cinq coudées, à peu près 2 mètres 40 de hauteur (verset 18).

Le tabernacle était au milieu du parvis ; ce dernier, mesurant environ cinquante mètres de long sur vingt-cinq de large, était formé de toile tenue par des colonnes, disposées sur leur base, le tout en airain. Sur le parvis, les prêtres et les Lévites offraient les sacrifices, là où le peuple juif était admis.

Ces distinctions représentent la différence entre l'église « visible » et la véritable assemblée spirituelle, la seule qui puisse s'approcher auprès de Dieu, afin d'entrer en communion avec Lui.
