World English Bible Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

Tu es maudit. A l'aggravation de la faute correspond celle de la peine : ce n'est plus, comme pour Adam, la terre qui est maudite à cause de l'homme, mais Caïn lui-même est maudit.

Par la terre. On a entendu ces mots dans ce sens : loin de la terre, ou : plus que la terre (maudite 3.17). Mais le sens naturel est : par la terre, non comme si elle pouvait maudire, mais parce qu'elle devient l'instrument de la malédiction divine en ce qu'elle ne peut plus supporter le meurtrier. Comparez Lévitique 18.25-28
