World English Bible let's draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water,

L'auteur décrit les dispositions que doivent avoir ceux qui s'approchent de Dieu : un cœur (siège des affections morales) sincère, (grec) véritable, tel qu'il doit être (comparez, pour le sens de ce mot, Hébreux 8.2 ; 9.24), une pleine certitude de foi, la conviction personnelle que l'œuvre de Christ est efficace et suffisante pour nous ouvrir l'accès auprès de Dieu ; ayant les cœurs purifiés, (grec) arrosés, aspergés, comme le peuple l'était, avec le sang des sacrifices ; (Hébreux 9.19 ; Lévitique 8.30) en d'autres termes et sans figure, des cœurs qui se sont appropriés l'œuvre rédemptrice de Christ et sont délivrés par elle d'une mauvaise conscience (Hébreux 10.2) c'est-à-dire du sentiment du péché et de la culpabilité.

Enfin, les mots : le corps lavé d'une eau pure font allusion à la fois aux ablutions de l'ancienne Alliance (Lévitique 8.6 ; 16.4) et au baptême de la nouvelle, symboles de pardon, de régénération et de sanctification. (Ezéchiel 36.25,Ephésiens 5.26)

Le pardon et la réconciliation par le sang de Christ, puis la régénération et la sanctification par le Saint-Esprit sont deux choses inséparables, mais distinctes.
