Hébreux 6.10

οὐ γὰρ ἄδικος ὁ θεὸς ἐπιλαθέσθαι τοῦ ἔργου ὑμῶν καὶ τῆς ἀγάπης ἧς ἐνεδείξασθε εἰς τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ, διακονήσαντες τοῖς ἁγίοις καὶ διακονοῦντες.
Dieu n’est pas injuste. Il ne peut pas oublier ce que vous faites, ni l’amour que vous avez montré pour lui. Vous avez montré cet amour autrefois en servant les autres chrétiens, et vous le faites encore maintenant.

World English Bible For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.

Le texte reçu porte : "Le travail de votre amour." Le mot souligné, qui manque dans Sin., B. A, C, D, n'est pas authentique.

Comparer Hébreux 10.32-34, et Introduction.

En disant : Dieu n'est pas injuste pour oublier tout ce que vous avez fait, l'auteur ne veut point dire, contrairement à toute l'Ecriture, que les œuvres de l'homme aient un mérite quelconque devant la justice de Dieu. Mais comme aucune œuvre faite par amour pour Dieu ne reste sans récompense, (Matthieu 10.40-42) il est certain aussi que le bon emploi des grâces de Dieu en attire de nouvelles.

Dans le cas particulier, il s'agit de persévérer dans la profession du christianisme : l'auteur peut augurer favorablement des preuves que ses lecteurs ont données de leur amour pour le nom de Dieu en se dévouant au service de ceux qui portaient ce nom et s'offraient à eux comme les représentants de Dieu.

Une telle charité, en effet, était le fruit de leur foi. (Comparer 1Thessaloniciens 1.3,4, où se trouve la même pensée.)

- Tout ce qui va suivre jusqu'à la fin de ce chapitre est une proclamation de l'assurance du salut, fondée sur les promesses de Dieu et sur sa fidélité.
